Before turkey poults are placed in the poultry house, high-quality turkey starter feed should be obtained. The house temperature should be adjusted to 30–32 °C before poults are placed, and then reduced by 2–3 °C each week until stabilized at 18–20 °C. If the temperature inside the house is not evenly adjusted, poults may huddle together, leading to piling and suffocation. Equipment to be used in the house must be disinfected and checked before the poults arrive. Litter material should be dust-free; otherwise, poults, which are highly sensitive to dust, may develop respiratory infections. Lighting should be arranged evenly throughout the house. The beaks of turkey poults should be trimmed and vaccinations administered between days 6–8. The number of drinkers and feeders used must be sufficient for the number of birds in the house.
